课程简介：This course is an overview of western pop culture in the last half of the 20th Century, covering the elements that make up this dominating influence on society and behaviour, including mass culture, childhood culture, technology subculture, comics, music videos, contemporary art, theatre, popular literature, film genres, and the disappearance or re invention of popular culture in the 21st century. The organisation of the course is THEMATIC, with a different topic each week. It has three broad aims: firstly to introduce models and examples of all aspects of pop culture that are common to westerners but largely unknown in Asia; secondly to chart the development and changes within pop cultural elements; and thirdly, to explore pop culture as a trend, phenomenon, and postmodern way of everyday life. Classes will be in English, although any important vocabulary will be given a Chinese translation. Grades will be earned through attendance, presentations (each student will give one short presentation), and an exam. Notes will be provided for each lecture in PDF form. Course contains over 600 hi-res images, audio files, and video files (1080p), lecture presentation is through multimedia (avi-mp3-jpg-pdf-doc-web), and not ppt, which is of inferior audio-visual quality. Mobile phones are forbidden.
